Some. Our rentals are self-guided, so we ask that every renter knows how to swim and has paddled a kayak at least once before. The route itself is beginner friendly, with calm protected water on an easy out-and-back path. If you've never been in a kayak at all, book a guided tour for your first time. You'll have more fun and so will we.
Single kayaks are $35, tandems are $55. That's the whole price for 3 hours: paddles, life jackets, backrests, route map, and parking are all included. The only extra is an optional crab pot add-on at checkout.
Often, especially April through October, though never guaranteed. Everything out here is wild, never baited, never staged. Alligators generally want nothing to do with kayaks. Give them room, never feed or approach one, and keep dogs at home. Most sightings are a pair of eyes at the waterline that sink out of view as you pass. We wrote a whole post about it.
2101 Paris Rd, New Orleans, LA 70129, about 15 minutes from the French Quarter. If your GPS acts up, search "Nola Party Barge" and follow it to the dock. Parking is free and right at the launch.
Your confirmation email has everything: unlock codes for the kayak and gear, the waiver to sign online, and a suggested route map. Show up at your booked time, punch in your code, launch. When you're done, lock it back up. If the confirmation email doesn't show up, check spam first.
Water, sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap, shoes that can get wet, and something waterproof for your phone. Summer paddlers: bring a hat and double the water. Full list in our packing post.
Renters must be 21 or older to book. Everyone paddling should know how to swim and have kayaked before.
We make the call same-day. If it's not right to paddle, you get rebooked or refunded, your choice. Summer afternoons can pop a thunderstorm out of nowhere, which is one more argument for the 8:00 AM slot.
Please don't. This is alligator habitat, and a dog in or near the water attracts exactly the kind of attention you don't want on a self-guided trip.
